SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- A late night car crash in Silver Spring, Md. left a pair of brothers dead and two young women hurt. Police are now trying to figure out what led up to the crash.

Capt. Paul Starks with Montgomery County Police tells 9NEWS NOW officers responded to the call in the Layhill area at 10:38 pm. A Nissan Sentra going southbound on Layhill Road hit the curb north of Middlevale Lane. The car left the roadway and hit a utility pole. The driver and front seat passenger died at the scene. Two young women in the back seat were rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police identified the driver as 20-year-old Idris Rafiq Muhammad of Silver Spring, Md. The front-seat passenger who died was his younger brother, 18-year-old Khalifah Muhammad. Police confirm both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Neither of the women in the back seat, who both survived the crash, were wearing a seat belt.

Capt. Starks said the investigation is on-going. It is too early to tell if alcohol, drugs, or foul play had any role in the crash.
