Kenston K. Yi
LORTON, Va. (WUSA) -- Fairfax County Police have charged a Lorton man with homicide after the bodies of his wife and daughter were found in their apartment Monday morning.
Police charged Kenston Yi, 49, of 9238 Cardinal Forest Lane with two counts of murder. Yi was charged Monday afternoon. Yi is accused of killing his wife, Hyon Yi, 47, and daughter Joy Jahyon Yi, 15. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Police say they received a call Monday morning from the DeWitt Army Hospital at nearby Fort Belvoir, asking for officers to respond to an address and check the welfare of the residents there. Police responded at about 8:30 a.m. and found the two bodies.
Police say there were no obvious signs of trauma. The Office of the Medical Examiner has determined that Hyon Yi died of blunt force trauma, and Joy Jahyon Yi died of asphyxiation. A police spokesperson said the case was believed to be domestic in nature and posed no threat to others in the community.
Neighbors in the Lorton apartment complex expressed shock and sadness over the deaths.
"She was a really nice lady and they had a beautiful daughter. I'm so upset, it's so unfair," said Cathy Kidwell, a next door neighbor.
Another neighbor, Shaneek Ross, said she saw the couple in a loud argument in their car a few days ago. Yesterday she says she saw Mr. Yi sitting alone in the car and just staring into space.
