WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia transportation officials say new bicycle lanes along Pennsylvania Avenue won't be ready for Bike to Work Day.
Transportation director Gabe Klein says some bicyclists are already using the lanes and say they are pleased with them, but some tweaks are needed.
Klein says lanes in some blocks are so wide he has seen drivers mistake them for car lanes, and some space may be given back to automobiles. Transportation officials are also considering separation barriers between drivers and bicyclists.
The Pennsylvania Avenue bike lanes run from 15th to 3rd streets in Northwest.
Friday's Bike to Work events are being held in Annapolis, Baltimore, Frederick, Columbia and Westminster.
