CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man has been arrested after he attempted to steal money from Girl Scouts, police said.
On March 24 at approximately 6:00 P.M., officers responded to a theft report on the 3200 block of Plaza Way. An intoxicated man and a woman had approached a group of Girl Scouts who were selling cookies in front of a store, police said.
According to police, the female suspect pushed the cookies off the display table and the man reached for the envelope with money in it.
The scouts troop leader was pushed by the suspect after she grabbed the envelope. She was injured as both suspects fled without the money, police said.
The father of one of the scouts was able to locate the male suspect and tried to detain him as Officer J. Morales arrived and helped secure the suspect.
James Ernest Wright, 48, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, theft, and disorderly conduct, police said.
They are still working on identifying the female suspect.
