WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9) -- DC Police say they've made an arrest following a deadly hit and run in the 1100 block of Florida ave, NE, DC.
According to investigators a 60-year-old woman was trying to cross the intersection on that street when she was hit by a silver Mercury SUV.
Police say the unidentified driver took off and was later found on Elliott st. NE where he was arrested.
The woman, whose name has not been made public was taken to a nearby hospital were she was pronounced dead.
Neighbors in the area say cars usually speed through there.
Jesse Lifer who lives on the block where it happened said , "you get a lot of speed, this whole area Florida avenue, K street is full of people moving really quickly."
Neighbors say the woman may have been leaving a nearby church just before she was run over.
DC Police investigators remained at the scene of the hit and run as of late Thursday night.
