WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Groupon, the largest deal making service on the Internet, is getting out of the gun business. Without much explanation the company is canceling existing and future gun related deals.

Groupon hasn't cited the Sandy Hook elementary shootings that saw 20 first graders and six adults killed--but other companies have.
WUSA9's Bruce Johnson has been looking into the impact the move could have on local gun advocates and businesses.

They are training in defensive shooting --the youtube video is provided by Instructor Evan Carson. Founder and President of Innovative Defense Solutions, a northern Virginia company.
Carson says his company has about 500 Groupon training deals still out there--and those customers can still get the gun training they paid for-- but after that Groupon won't be offering any gun related deals.

Groupon issued a statement out of Chicago that says "The category is under review following recent consumer and merchant feedback."

Our calls into Living Social --one of Groupon's main competitors have not yet been returned.

Evan Carson called Groupon's decision a "knee jerk reaction....

by ending all deals relating to firearms, Groupon is helping make our society less safe by making firearm training less accessible."

Carson said, "They are directly affecting the law abiding citizens' ability to exercise their second amendment rights".

At Monday''s inaugural ball. the issue of gun control was brought up in many interviews.

A Texas gun shop owner is calling for a boycott of Groupon after the site canceled his deal for a concealed handgun training course.
