WASHINGTON, (WUSA)- The West Lawn in front of the U.S. Capitol has become the stage for the largest Memorial Day Concert this years.
The 2012 National Memorial Day Concert will kick off at 8 pm on Sunday, but today the dress rehearsal served as a preview of the show that will be broadcast all over the world on PBS.
The show's co-host, actor Joe Mantegna said many Americans have forgotten the meaning behind the Memorial day holiday and promises the concert will remind people what it is all about.
He said, "God bless the US military and please use this memorial day weekend to think about that, and understand that is why we're able to do that BBQ".
The concert featured military tributes to our service men and women, as well as musical performances by popular recording artists like Daughtry, Trace Adams, Natalie Cole, and Jessica Sanchez.
Sunday's concert will be open to the public, and gates open at 5 p.m.
