Media Reports: Larry Hagman, Actor known for roles in 'Dallas' and 'I Dream Of Jeannie', Dies in Dallas hospital

(WUSA) - Larry Hagman, the actor best known for his role as J.R. Ewing in the long-running TV drama "Dallas," has died, according to media reports.

The Dallas Morning News, citing sources close to the actor, reported on its website Friday night that Hagman,a native of North Texas, died on Friday afternoon at a Dallas hospital.

The paper reported a statement issued by the Hagman family, stating that he died from complications with his recent battle with cancer.

Our CBS affiliate in Dallas has also confirmed Hagman's death.

The family statement continues: "Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most," the family said in a statement. "Larry's family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time."

The Dallas Morning News reports that Hagman's "Dallas" costars Linda Gray, who played his wife Sue Ellen, and Patrick Duffy, who played brother Bobby, were at Hagman's side.

Hagman, whose mother was stage and screen actress Mary Martin, also starred in another iconic TV series, the quirky comedy "I Dream of Jeannie."
