Local Groups Picked For Inaugural Parade

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--Tuesday the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced some of the participants for the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade which will occur on Monday, January 21, 2013.

Among the groups selected by PIC from Maryland, Virginia, the District and West Virginia are:

54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment Company B
Silver Spring, Maryland

Ballou Senior High School "Majestic" Marching Knights
Washington, D.C.

Canine Companions for Independence
Fauquier County, Virginia

University of Maryland Marching Band
College Park, Maryland

Virginia Military Institute Marching Unit
Lexington, Virginia

Frankfort High School Marching Band
Ridgeley, West Virginia

In a news release President Obama is quoted as saying, "The talented groups chosen to participate in the Inaugural Parade reflect the spirit, values, and diversity of our great nation. Vice President Biden and I are honored to have them join us in the parade." 

PIC says more than 2,800 applications were submitted. More groups from around the country are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as they accept the invitation to participate.

PIC says "All participants in the Inaugural Parade are responsible for paying their own lodging and transportation to and from Washington, DC."
