WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Eating right can help prevent diabetes or control an existing condition and it doesn't have to break your food budget.
World-renowned chef, Carl Wilder, recently placed himself on a diabetic's diet, using the SNAP food stamp program of $4.50/day- adapting his grocery list, lifestyle and portions for 2 months. He is hoping to raise money to save Stirring the Pot Harlem, a program designed to promote healthy eating in the Harlem Community.
We asked him:
How much money per meal are we talking about?
What did you keep and change from food choices we traditionally see on shopping lists of someone on food stamps?
What are you making today?
What do you hope people will take away/learn from your experience?
See our interview with Chef Wilder above.
