WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Washington Police Department sent out a release today commenting on the recent allegations of misconduct related to two officers.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in the release, "We recognize that the actions of individual officers reflect on the entire Department. To uncover any potential malfeasance by officers, the Department regularly conducts audits and investigations of their conduct and behavior, both when on-duty and off-duty. The misguided actions of a few in no way reflect on the professionalism, dedication, and integrity of the Department."
It was also mentioned that three officers were shot in the line of duty this year.
Officials are currently investigating the case of an officer who may have been running a prostitution ring out of his apartment located in SE. That officer was later identified as Lenwood Barnhill, Jr., a 24-year veteran of MPD. He was recently found with a reported missing teenage girl in his apartment. The girl said she had met other women there as well, according to court documents.
Another DC officer, Marc Washington, allegedly took naked photos of a teenage girl who was reported missing by her mother. That case is under investigation as well.
