Lt. John Boesman Out Of Hospital After Attempting To Rescue Rodwell McNeil From Burning Car

SPRINGDALE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Lt. John Boesman is out of the hospital after suffering second degree burns to his hands and right side of his face while attempting to rescue a driver trapped in a burning car, officials say.

The 21-year veteran was the first on the scene when police got a call on Monday afternoon about an accident on Martin Luther King Ave. and Whitfield Chapel Rd. in Springdale, Md. Prince George's County Police said.

The 70-year-old driver, Rodwell McNeil, died inside the vehicle, police said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lt. Boesman read through messages of gratitude from the community posted on Prince George's County Police Facebook page and twitter.
