BALTIMORE, Md., (WUSA) -- Maryland will ban the sale of crib bumpers starting in June of 2013.
The Department of Health determined that pads provide no benefits and, in fact, that in many cases they are dangerous.
It's something the 9 News consumer team first told the public about more than a year ago.
Doctors say a baby can stop breathing if they turn into the pad, and cannot turn over or they get their little head trapped between the mattress and the pad.
The message is babies are safest when they sleep alone, on their backs and in a crib without a bumper.
