WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- It's a new concept for Washington. The Drybar just opened in Georgetown and Bethesda, locations No. 17 and 18 for this unique business that specializes in blow drying and styling your hair. The chain is spreading like wildfire across the country.
Drybar charges a $40 flat fee to wash and style your hair, no matter your hair's length or texture. We compared that to nine other salons within a half mile radius of the new Georgetown location and found the others were charging an average of $10 more for a blowout. An updo, or UpTini, costs $80 at Drybar. It's $14 more, on average, at competing salons. Some salons charge up to $150.
Owner Alli Webb started the business after having her two sons. The bar menu of blow outs -- from the Straight Up to the Cosmo -- were developed from her years as a stylist.
My blowout started with a consultation in the chair of Brandy Smith. My hair was washed, and then it was time for the "Mai Tai" blow out. While stylists worked, 9 a.m. patrons watched "The Devil Wears Prada," read magazines and charged their iPhones. You can even order a mimosa.
When it was time for the big reveal, I discovered my hair had lots of volume and shine in just 45 minutes.
If you get addicted to their blow outs, Drybar even offers monthly memberships and value packs. For example, you can buy a 12 pack from $440, a savings of $40.
