WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- 9News Now anchor JC Hayward is now out of surgery, and her first words, according to 9News Now colleague and anchor Andrea Roane were, "Does anybody have lipstick?"
She is recovering just nicely and she's expecting to be resting, at home, by Wednesday night.
JC took some time to take photos before going in for surgery Wednesday morning.
JC announced last week that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Earlier this week, she was told that a second lesion in her breast is benign.
Originally, JC was going to have a double bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery immediately afterwards, but now she is having a lumpectomy.
JC explains in on JCHayward.com, "When you have a lumpectomy, basically only the the cancerous tissue and some normal tissue will be removed. I probably will be in the hospital for a day maybe two but I will be back to work on Monday."
