CAPTIVA ISLAND, Fla. (WUSA9) -- A Florida teenager took the ride of his life. Chris Kreis and a friend were boating several miles off the coast of Captiva Island and along came a whale shark, some 30 feet long, the size of their boat.

Chris figured this may not happen again, so he jumped in the water, swam to the fish and grabbed on.

"When I started holding on, I felt the whale started moving itself. I felt the drag and he didn't really want me on there, so I let go and that's it," he said. "There were two big bull sharks in the area, so that's why I was kind of hauling back really quickly."

For the record, whale sharks are not endangered. It's not illegal to ride one, but it's not really smart either. Marine biologists say look at but don't touch it.
