Va. Task Force Returns From NJ On Election Day

  • FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- Eighty Virginia Task Force One (VATF-1) have returned to their Chantilly headquarters on Tuesday. 

    The team went to New Jersey to conduct search and rescue operations with other teams in areas hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. VATF-1 helped evacuate residents after the storm and gave other assistance.

    Farifax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova was among the people welcoming the team back home. In a statement on Tuesday morning, Bulova said, "I am happy to welcome home Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue Team ... The members of VATF-1 really made a difference in helping those affected by the storm. Their hard work and selflessness have made Fairfax County immensely proud."

    Maryland Task Force 1 was also scheduled to return home to Rockville on Tuesday afternoon. The team spent nine days in New York.
