WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A Washington, D.C. councilmember says Mayor Vincent Gray "doesn't deserve" a second term in office.
Gray announced his intent to run for a second term Monday afternoon. Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) said in a statement he was surprised and disappointed by the decision.
"Vince Gray was elected under false pretenses and doesn't deserve a second chance because he ran a corrupt campaign," said Wells. "I've known Vince Gray for years and I'm disappointed that he let me down-and everyone in DC down.
"DC taxpayers are still footing the bill for the fallout from Vince Gray's corrupt campaign-which followed him into the Mayor's office," said Wells' campaign manager Chebon Marshall. "Voters shouldn't accept the fact that Vince Gray hasn't been indicted as a clean bill of health. We can all agree that surrounding himself with people like Jeffrey Thompson proves that Vince Gray can't be trusted."
