MCLEAN, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Six cats died in a Northern Virginia house fire on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a fire along the 1900 block of Westmoreland Street in McLean, Virginia on Thursday afternoon.
The fire was called in at 12:28 p.m. Captain William Moreland, public information officer with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, said that one elderly woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Moreland confirmed that seven cats and one dog were found in the house. Six of the cats were dead on the scene and the dog and one cat were taken to an animal hospital for treatment.
