WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Food and Drug Adminstration is cracking down on companies that market supplement pills as a treatment for concussions or other traumatic brain injuries.

The FDA wants all consumers to know that all such claims are false.  The agency is concerned that people will try to use these pills to help recover from concussions without getting the proper care.

Concussions should be diagnosed, treated, and monitored by a health care professional.  In December, the FDA issued a warning letter to Star Scientific, Inc., for false marketing.  The company claimed it's product, Anatabloc, can treat traumatic brain injuries.
