Video: Police say mom left baby in car while gambling

Alicia Brown is charged with Child Abuse 2nd Degree, Confined Unattended Child under 8 years old, and Neglect of a Minor

HANOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- A mother faces several charges after police say she left her 4-year-old child in the car unattended at the Maryland Live! casino parking garage on New Year's Eve.

According to police, officers responded Level 4 of the parking garage at 7002 Arundel Mills Circle for the report of an unattended child in a parked vehicle at 6:31 p.m. They say security personnel first noticed a child crying, and alone, in a parked vehicle. They later determined that the vehicle arrived there at approximately 10 a.m. and a woman left the vehicle then entered the casino area of Maryland Live! Casino.

Medical personnel arrived to check the child for any injuries, say police. The child was then transported to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center for an examination. Doctors later determined the child was in good health and showed no signs of physical abuse, but was cold and hungry, say police.

Charging documents show that "blankets were placed covering the rear windows of the GMC so no one could see inside." The documents also indicated that the child car seat was wet and smelled of urine.

Police say the woman returned to the scene before the child was transported and identified the child as hers. Twenty-four-year-old Alicia Denice Brown of Baltimore was arrested at the scene. Police tell us she is charged with Child Abuse 2nd Degree, Confined Unattended Child under 8 years old, and Neglect of a Minor. She was released on bail.

The child was released by Child Protective Services to a relative.

Authorities say that Brown was not working at the casino.
