MERCERSBURG, Pa. (WUSA9) -- After two season plagued by warm weather and little snow, regional winter resorts have rebounded with the earliest opening in 11 years.
The Whitetail Mountain Resort in Mercersburg Pa. and the Liberty Mountain Resort in Carroll Valley Pa. opened Friday after a week of cold and stormy weather created ideal conditions for laying down thick layers of man-made snow.
The resorts, both within an hour's drive of DC's northern and western suburbs will stay open through Sunday, and reopen again next weekend for the entirety of the season.
Skier Rebecca Spitz of Sterling Va., declared the opening "White Friday" as an alternative to the "Black Friday" shopping rush.
"There's nothing better than being out here today," she laughed.
