WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- DC Mayor Vincent Gray will propose a ban on Styrofoam containers; the kind your take-out orders are placed in.
It's a step to help clean up the Anacostia River and other waterways where plastics and glasses have become the most discarded trash.
The city's environment was topic A at the Mayor's press conference on Wednesday.
The administration had a police cruiser idling by with some new equipment designed to shut the engine down when the batteries are fully charged, thus saving on fuel and emissions.
Ninety cruisers are being equipped with the idling machine.
A new environmentally friendly Whole Foods store, the sixth for DC, was also announced. This one will go up along the trendy H Street Corridor at 6th Street.
