ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA 9) -- A Fairfax, Va. man was sentenced Wednesday for assaulting federal police officers, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
Jay Bonanza Briley, 52, faces 78 months in jail, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for assaulting, resisting, opposing and impeding police officers of the United States Park Police during their attempts to arrest him, according to the DOJ.
Officers arrested Briley on Jan. 12, 2012, after finding Briley naked and engaging in a public sexual act in an area of federal parklands, according to the news release. Briley's car was parked at Daingerfield Island, near the Washington Sailing Marina.
Prior to his arrest, Briley refused to exit his vehicle peacefully and assaulted one officer by kicking him in the stomach and violently resisting another officer's efforts to remove him from the vehicle, according to the news release.
