WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- People aren't making enough money. There aren't enough jobs to go around.  These are factors we feel, and now those feelings are being backed up by the numbers.

In 1999, the median American family made $56,000 (that's the inflation-adjusted number from the Census Bureau).  In 2012, it was $51,000 (inflation adjusted). We have lost 9 percent of our income in 11 years.

Most of that damage happened in 2008. Income is down about 8.3 percent since 2007.

We were hammered financially after 9/11. The middle-class came back from there and then we got our clock cleaned by the Great Recession. The middle class just can't get back that lost income.
