WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- General Motors wants to charge up sales on its Chevy Volt.

So, the automaker is chopping $5,000 off the sticker price on its 2014 models.

The discount will cut the price of the electric car from $40,000 to around $35,000.

GM says if you add in government tax rebates, the price could drop as low as $27,5000.

Auto manufacturers have been aggressively offering price incentives on electric vehicles to try to improve sales.
