GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- A man in his 20's was shot multiple times during an early morning home invasion in Germantown.

Captain Jim Daley, spokesman for Montgomery County Police, says officers responded to the 17400 block of Onax Drive after receiving a report of a burglary around 1:30 Monday morning.  Once on scene officers found a man suffering from gun shot wounds.  Captain Daley says the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and underwent surgery in critical condition.

Captain Daley says several people, all adults, were in the house at the time of the incident.  They are all being questioned by detectives. It's believed all parties knew each other.

"This was not a random home invasion," Daley said.

According to Captain Daley, investigators believe several suspects entered the basement residence through the back door.

Officers used a helicopter and K-9 units to canvass the area overnight, but the search came up negative. There is currently no lookout being issued.  Police are awaiting approval of a search warrant to sweep the home.

So far it's unclear what, if anything, was taken from the home.  Right now police are also not certain whether the shooting victim is a resident or one of the suspects trying to force his way into the house.  They say home invasions in the area are unusual, as neighbors are left shaken. Daley adds there should be no community alert.
