ANNAPOLIS (WUSA9) -- Tuesday, Maryland has a new governor. Well, sort of.

Tuesday morning, Governor Martin O'Malley swore in 8-year-old Genea Harrison as Governor for a Day. The Rosa L. Parks Elementary school student was chosen as the first ever Governor for a Day after an essay contest in honor of International Women's Day. Genea was among more than 200 girls under the age of 13 who wrote about why they wanted to be governor and what they would do if they held the position.

"Governor Harrison" will have a full day meeting with Taiwan Ambassador Pu-Tsung King, attending the women's caucus meeting, going over remarks with speechwriters, addressing the Congress of Educatiors on stream restoration and environmental literacy and joining Lt. Gov. Brown to swear in Jim Smith and Abby Hopper as Transportation Secretary and Director of Maryland Energy Administration, respectively.
