WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -  After the big party here in Washington comes the clean up.

As you would imagine it isn't an easy gig, but as WUSA9's Ken Molestina reports, the men in one particular group are taking pride in restoring order to the Nation's Capitol.

As they say, it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. And it isn't a walk in the park. As a matter of fact, the task is massive.

But for a group of homeless veterans from Richmond, Virginia, it's a job they're honored to do. They've made the trek up to Washington to continue yet another act of patriotism, however tedious it may be.

Jake gave only his first name, and said, "Man:you saw all the people out here today right?... All right, so you can imagine how much trash is out here."

Like the rest of his crew members, he is dedicated to preserving the beauty of our nation's most recognizable piece of real estate.

"Everyone works together we do it is a team get all the trash into the dumpster and make it clean," said Pierre Young.

Hundreds of thousands of people out here on the mall means hundreds of thousand of pounds of trash. There were no trash cans here, just trash dumpsters. Each hold upwards of  one ton of trash, and they are all over the mall.

And as the crowds cleared earlier in the day, you could see just  how dirty the streets had become around the National Mall. The parade goers may never meet this group going beyond their call of duty to clean it all up, but they know come tomorrow, all this will be gone.

It's that kind of expectation that keeps people like Jake working around the clock until they can put a lid on this job.
