WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Fiscal Cliff has many college students and their parents on edge. They are worried about their financial aid money.

In the District, more than 6,000 college students could lose part of their "Tuition Assistance Grant." This program is also called TAG. It gives students in the District grants of up to $10,000 a year towards tuition for out-of-state, public universities. They could stand to lose a lot of money if Congress can't reach a compromise by the end of the year.

The DC State Superintendent of Education and her staff are already working on a backup plan. The problem is that they don't like any of their options. Students would likely have their grants reduced by up to $1,000 each. She hopes Congress is thinking about the nation's future leaders
