Small plane crashes into woods; 3 people injured

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Three people are critically injured after a small plane crashed into the woods off of Route 50, police said.

Two of the three victims were airlifted to Baltimore Shock Trauma Hospital and one victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance. This incident occurred at Route 50 and Church Road by Bowie Airport, police said.

The three victims all remain in critical condition. They are Tivay Alireza, 58, of Washington, D.C. Seth Sharpe, 45, of Laurel, Md. and Deborah A. Tucker, 48, of Alexandria, Va.

Police received the call from at approximately 3:50 p.m. by a motorist who witnessed the plane crash. This was a four-seat aircraft, officials said. Hamzat crews remained on the scene after firefighters cleared it to pump fuel from the plane.

Caderal Jones a motorist who witnesses the wreck said , "the plane just came right over the top of my car, and did a nose dive right into the bushes."

WUSA9 was on the scene and spoke to a witness who said rushed to help. He said that the woman had a large gash on her head and the male passenger sitting in the back appeared to have broken legs.

All lanes on Route 50 Eastbound and Westbound are now open.
