WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The clock is ticking if you need to book a Thanksgiving flight.

According to Travelocity, Thanksgiving airfare is up seven percent from last year. A round trip ticket will run an average of $415.

If you haven't booked tickets already, then travel experts say you will pay even more than $415 because the cheapest flights are usually offered at the start of the new year.

If you haven't bought your ticket yet, then all hope is not lost.  Experts advise traveling on Thanksgiving and returning on Saturday to save money.  Booking early flights may also help. Early flights have a better on time performance and shorter security lines.
