Clifford has stent procedure, Ewing to coach

Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford had two stents placed in his heart during a procedure Friday after suffering chest pains during a dinner, the team said.

Clifford was admitted to the hospital Thursday night and underwent testing on Friday morning, leading doctors to conclude he needed the procedure.

The Bobcats said Clifford was "resting comfortably" and would re-join the team soon.

Patrick Ewing, the former Knicks great and Bobcats associate head coach, will lead Charlotte in its game Friday night against New York.

Clifford, in his first year with the Bobcats, is the latest professional head coach to recently have a medical issue.

Denver Broncos coach John Fox was released from a Charlotte-area hospital on Friday after undergoing an aortic heart valve replacement Monday. He was taken to the hospital after a bout of light-headedness on the golf course last week.

Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak suffered what doctors said was a minor stroke that caused him to collapse while running off the field at halftime on Sunday.
