WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A one-time campaign treasurer for Mayor Vincent Gray was sentenced to six months in prison Friday morning.
Thomas Gore admitted to secretly paying campaign rival Sulaimon Brown. The goal was for Brown to attack then-Mayor Adrian Fenty, thus helping Gray win the 2010 election.
In sentencing Gore to prison, as well as six months of home detention, the judge said Gore needs to be an example for other campaigns that may be tempted to lie.
Mayor Gray has not been charged with any crimes. There is no evidence he had any knowledge of the payments.
