Corporal Rodney Lewis charged with DUI in Fairfax, Va.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY (WUSA9) -- A police officer has been suspended after he was charged with driving under the influence, officials said. 

The incident happened on Friday around 2:45 a.m. when Corporal Rodney Lewis was off-duty in Fairfax, Va.. Lewis was driving an unmarked cruiser in I-495 when he lost control of his car near the American Legion Memorial Bridge and hit a wall. He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Lewis has been suspended with pay. He is a 12-year veteran of the department and is currently assigned to the Regional Investigation Division, police said.
