ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Arlington County Police rendered what was believed to be a potential pipe bomb safe.
At about 4:20 p.m., officers pulled a car over in the 100 block of S Highland St. and saw what appeared to be a metal pipe with caps on both ends, police said.
Arlington County Police, Fire Dept., and the bomb squad responded to the scene to investigate the vehicle. Highland St. was closed from Route 50 to S 2nd St. during the investigation.
Bomb technicians detonated the device in the vehicle to render it safe and found the pipe was empty. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.
The investigation has been handed over to the Arlington Police Department.
