ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) --The creepy news about  a man sneaking into women's bedrooms while they sleep is rattling residents at the Meridian apartment building near Arlington's Courthouse.

"That's really scary.  You think of this place as safe, but you can get kind of negligent with keeping your doors locked," said resident Becky Rockey.

Three times over the past few weeks, women residents have woken  up to a strange man  standing near their bed, staring at them.

Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said the three separate victims from separate incidents were all awoken at around 4 and 5 in the morning to see a male stranger standing in their bedroom.  In that last incident on September 21st,  the man was rubbing the woman's arm.

Sternbeck says the man fled when the women woke up.  He said one of the women lives alone, another has a roommate, and the third was in bed with her boyfriend.  They all came home late after a night of going out. Sternbeck says  the women are not sure if they locked their doors or not.

"We don't know if the person is a resident or piggy-backing upon residents as they walk in following closely behind them," said Sternbeck.

Some residents were upset that the management had not informed them about the incidents.

The Meridian's management would not answer our questions, but Sternbec says they are now alerting every resident about the break ins and changing all the locks on the doors.  One of the problems in getting the word out was that two of the women did not come forward for days.
