Vincent Crapps, Of 3D US Infantry Regiment The Old Guard, Drowns In Potomac River

(WUSA9) --  Montgomery County Police say a man who drowned on Saturday was a member of the 3D United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), stationed at Fort Myer, Va.

According to police, emergency crews responded to the scene of a possible drowning at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Potomac River near Bear Island. Police say crews searched for a 21-year-old man, but weren't able to recover him until Monday at approximately 2:25 p.m.

Vincent Crapps was pronounced dead at the scene, say police.

Montgomery County Police say Crapps dived off the cliffs on the Virginia side of the river when his friends noticed he did not resurface. His friends called 911.
