TRAFFIC ALERT: Power lines, poles to be moved on Rt. 50 in Md.

NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (WUSA9) --  This weekend, crews will close lanes on a U.S. 50 bridge to relocate utility poles and overhead power lines.

Officials say starting at 6 a.m. Sunday Baltimore Gas and Electric and the Maryland State Highway Administration will close a lane on eastbound and westbound US 50 (John Hanson Highway) bridge over Garden City Drive in New Carrollton.

Drivers in the vicinity of US 50 in New Carrollton are urged to drive with caution, anticipate delays and plan ahead for extra travel time.

We're told that all work should be complete no later than 10 a.m.

Once this work is complete, construction crews will schedule repairs to the highway shoulder on the westbound bridge.
