(USA Today) -- Between crosstown slogs and long waits between shows, it's so easy to be a jaded member of the fashion press.

And then the seating goddesses grant you a gift: The (arguably) best seat from which to view the collection of one of the (undoubtedly) best fashion houses.

Shoved in an otherwise unglamorous corner at the start of the runway reveals a rare glimpse into at the preternatural poise of that prince of prettiness: Oscar de la Renta.

Waiting in the wings, he smooths down his navy cashmere-silk cardigans before they make their entrance. He sits, perched on a stool, gently gripping the arm of star model Karlie Kloss before the lights blaze and the sun - Here Comes the Sun - blares. He shares a pre-catwalk moment with a full-skirted Chanel Iman. He even flashes a sweet, sly grin at audience members who can only ogle, vs. own, his garments.

And those clothes: Sunshine was strewn throughout, in shades of citron, chartreuse and clementine, aqua and fuchsia. As per de la Renta's press notes, his materials were a veritable "melange": of floral embroidery and corded filigree, of houndstooth, chainmail and intarsia. Adornments included colored flower hair pins, black lace gloves and a pair of black veils - not that de la Renta has anything to hide, or that there's any mystery as to why he's so successful.

Fittingly, the show also ended with George Harrison (What Is Life) - another quiet, unassuming genius.
