WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing a transgender woman, police said.
Michael McBride, 23 plead guilty in October 2013 to a charge of 'aggravated assault while armed.' The incident occurred on June 21 when police found a transgender female suffering from multiple stab wounds on the 3000 block of Stanton Road, S.E., police said.
Officials say McBride and the victim had been exchanging text messages and phone calls before the attack happened. He then went to the location with the intentions of having sex when a dispute arose. That's when McBride stabbed the victim several times. The knife blade broke when he stabbed the victim in the collarbone, police said.
The victim suffered more than 40 stab wounds to the body and would not have survived if it was not for timely medical care, police said.
