WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Officials in the Washington metro area are preparing for the wintry weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for DC. 1-3 inches of total snow accumulations are expected for the storm.
Department of Public Works and Department of Transportation will deploy more than 200 plows on Thursday.
The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company says they are monitoring the weather and are prepared to respond to any emergencies or service interruptions.
United Airlines will be giving travel options for customers whose flight plans may change due to the winter weather impacting the Midwest and East Coast regions.
Some Winter Weather Safety and Preparedness Tips:
Maintaining an emergency supply kit - Keep enough emergency supplies on hand for you and those in your care. Remember supplies for children, those with special needs and pets. Keep the following items readily available:
o Flashlights - not candles
o Fresh batteries
o Battery-operated clock radio
o Corded telephone
o Fully charged cell phone
o Non-perishable foods
o Water - one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days for drinking and sanitation
o First aid kit
o Local maps
