WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA9)-- The government shutdown is forcing D.C. lottery officials to suspend any payout for lotto prizes. However, that isn't keeping on gas station owner from cashing out some of his customers prizes.

Dennis Alloy owns the Sunoco gas station on Pennsylvania Avenue S.E. and he says he will pay out of his own pocket for winning tickets under $600. He tells us he isn't allowed to cash out any winnings over 600 and scratch off tickets.

Alloy said, "I have a lot of good lottery customers and it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to risk their money and not get the payout when they win."

WUSA9 was there as one man found out he had won $2,500 in cash prizes that he will have to wait to cash in on once the government shutdown is over.
