WASHINGTON (WUSA) - Smoke was seen on the metro early Sunday.
Around 6:30 a.m., WMATA official tells WUSA9 there was a report of smoldering wood on the track on the red line above ground, just outside Union Station.
The use of a handheld extinguisher was unsuccessful. D.C. Fire was called as the power shut down.
Trains are single-tracking temporarily between NoMa and Judiciary Square. Significant delays are not expected because of regularly scheduled Sunday service.
Metro adds routinely, some smoldering may occur on the tracks.
