WASHINGTON (AP) - MedStar Washington Hospital Center says a worker died after he was overcome by fumes and at least four others were treated.
The hospital says the worker responded to a mechanical room in the east building to fix the air conditioning and was overcome. Spokeswoman So Young Pak says the worker, identified as Melvin Lewis, and a colleague were taken to the emergency department, where Lewis died. She says the other worker is expected to be released.
D.C. fire and emergency services department spokesman Timothy J. Wilson says a total of five people were taken to the emergency room.
As a precaution, some the building was evacuated, but patients were able to return after an hour.
The hospital says the cause of the leak is under investigation.
