LANHAM, Md (WUSA) -- Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland is the first Hospital in Prince George's County to use a robotic surgery system called The Da Vinci system.

This machine made by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. allows doctors to perform advanced surgeries with minimal pain, blood loss and a much quicker recovery for patients.

Urologist Dr. Jonah Murdock who was first to use the system at the hospital on December 19th says the robotic arms that mimic his hands allows him to do a more precise job.

Dr. Murdock tells us, "Because the instruments are half an inch long or a quarter of an inch in size and because of the magnification of the robot is sometimes 5 or 10 times normal size you can see every little thing inside the body that you sometimes couldn't see or frequently couldn't see when you were doing standard surgery."

The Da Vinci system is used to treat a range of conditions including bladder, kidney and prostate cancer and also problems with endometriosis and uterine fibroids.
