WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A former DC tax office employee is accused of stealing $400,000 from the Office of Tax and Revenue.

The Washington Examiner reports charging documents show Mary Ayers-Zander began stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in February 2007. That's the same time the DC tax officer manager Harriette Walters' 20-year, $50 million theft scheme was unraveling.

If convicted in the embezzlement scheme, Ayers-Zander faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
