FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA) -- An early morning blaze destroyed a large home under construction at the intersection of Westmoreland Street and Haycock Road in Falls Church.
The fire happened around 1:56 am and was so intense that it burnt the unoccupied home to its foundation. The fifty foot flames knocked out power and phone lines in the neighborhood and slightly damaged an adjacent house.
Neither neighbors nor firefighters were injured and authorities consider the fire suspicious but have yet to determine a cause. The home had been under construction for nearly four years and some neighbors considered it an eyesore. Monday, arson investigators will bring in heavy equipment to sift through the rubble in search for clues.
