(WUSA9)-- Robert Griffin III has been cleared by doctors and his coach to begin practicing as the Washington Redskins open training camp on Thursday.

While he may not play in the pre-season, many describe his rehabilitation from January's knee injury that tore both his ACL and LCL ligaments as remarkable.  The former Heisman Trophy winner has had two reconstrutvie kneee surgeries in four years.

The quarterback told USA Today Sports via text message that his rehab has been both "mentally and physical taxing... but worth it."

WUSA9's Anita Brikman was joined in the studio today by the director of Sports Medicine atMedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, who discussed how RG III was able to make such a rapid return.  You can see the interview with Dr. Jason De Luigi, DO of Medstar NRH here.
