Eat High-water Content Foods To Stay Hydrated

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) --- In addition to drinking purified or bottled water, what else can you do to keep yourself hydrated during hot weather? 

Turn to high water-content foods.  Fruits and vegetables top the list.

Watermelon is number one on the list. The fruit contains a whopping water content of 92 percent and nutrients like Vitamin C.

Grapefruit is also a great hydrator with just 30 calories and 90 percent water.

Cantaloupe also gets high marks. You know how juicy it is, and it's a melon high in potassium, which can be depleted when you exert yourself in the heat.

Cucumbers are high-content vegetables. They are great in your salad or sliced in water to give extra flavor.

And the one surprising hydrating food: oatmeal. When oatmeal is cooked, it easily absorbs the milk or water.

Meanwhile, you may see some of these healthy produce in a new cooking segment inside a doctor's office.
